Gagron Fort in Jhalawar

 




Gagron Fort is located in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan state, India.

 It is a hill and water fort and is considered as the only hill and water fort in India.


This fort is built at the confluence of the Ahu and Kali Sindh rivers, and is surrounded by water on three sides.

There was a deep ditch on the fourth side, which provided complete security.




This fort was built by Raja Bijaldev Singh Dod in the 12th century23. This fort was built between the seventh century and the fourteenth century.



The last ruler of this fort was Raja Achal Das Khinchi.

There were 14 wars on this fort and queens performed Jauhar twice.

This fort was also conquered by Sher Shah and Akbar.


In 2013 it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.
